Profile of the Minister

Mrs Seepersad-Bachan was appointed Trinidad and Tobago’s first woman Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs following the general elections of 24 May 2010, where she emerged victorious in her campaign to become Parliamentary Representative for the constituency of San Fernando West.
An Engineer by profession, Mrs Seepersad-Bachan holds a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. She is former Lecturer in Engineering at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus and Member of the UWI Board of Engineering Institute.
Mrs Seepersad-Bachan has also served as Chairman of the National Petroleum Company Limited and an Opposition Senator, earning a reputation in and out of the Parliament as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most respected Energy Spokespersons. Later, she became Deputy Political Leader of the Congress of the People and today, remains an active member of the COP, a partner party of the People’s Partnership Government.
She also served as Chairman of a Cabinet appointed committee for Retail Marketing of Fuels, and as Deputy Chairman of a Cabinet appointed Committee on Telecommunications Policy. Mrs Seepersad-Bachan has also served on the boards of several private companies.
A mother of two and married to Suresh Bachan, Mrs Seepersad-Bachan was appointed Minister of Public Administration in June 2011.
